Who is this training for?

Do you have a pilot's license and enjoy flying, but want to further develop your skills to become an even better pilot who can fly in more conditions? Then the Night Rating Training is ideal for you!

A difference between day and night
During Night Training, you learn to fly at night according to Visual Flying Rules (VFR), which means learning to fly by sight in the dark. This requires a completely new set of skills that you can sink your teeth into. You learn to work with different visual references and interpret instruments in reduced visibility. This not only improves your navigation and emergency procedures but also makes you a better pilot - a difference between day and night ;). Moreover, you'll enjoy fantastic views during your night flights over illuminated cities and under clear starry skies.

Get more out of your license
In short, with night flying, you get more out of your license and increase your flexibility because you're no longer limited to daylight hours only. Weather conditions at night are often better, with less wind and thermal activity. Additionally, it's a good investment in your career, as night flying experience is often a requirement for commercial pilots.

Note: The training is not possible with our electric aircraft as they don't have lighting. Of course, we compensate for all CO2 emissions through our partner TreeByTree.

    Content of this training

    • The price includes VAT, a maximum of 25 landings, fuel, and instruction. If more landings are needed or when extra hours are flown because certain exercises need to be repeated, this will be settled on a cost basis.
    • You receive 3 hours of theoretical training for the Night (A) qualification.
    • 5 hours of night flying time in a Single Engine Piston (our electric aircraft don't have lighting, so we use our fuel model for this training. We fly on MoGas and the CO2 emissions are of course compensated.)
    • 4 hours of flying with an instructor.
    • 1.5 hours of cross-country navigation flight with one dual cross-country flight of at least 50 km (27 NM).
    • 5 solo take-offs and 5 solo full-stop landings.
    • No Skilltest or Assessment of Competence is required; completion is proven by finishing the training through a course completion and an endorsement from the Head of Training in the logbook.
    • Although there is no exam, a license amendment must be requested from KIWA to have the Night Rating added. The costs are around €120.

The criteria to start with the Night Rating

    • Candidates must possess at least a PPL(A) or LAPL(A).
    • A valid medical certificate is required.
    • LAPL holders must have completed basic IR training required for the issuance of the PPL before starting night training. If this is not the case, students must fly the relevant flights from the E-Flight PPL(A) training syllabus as stated in the PPL(A) Training Manual.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    • How long does the Night(A) course typically take?
The course can be completed in 2 to 3 evenings, but this may vary depending on the student's availability.
    • What is the maximum duration to complete the Night(A) training?
The training must be completed within a maximum period of 6 months.
    • What happens if I don't meet the required standards within the minimum time?
If the required standards are not achieved within the allocated time, you must repeat part or all of the training flight. This can lead to an extension of the course duration and additional costs. Your instructor will keep you well-informed about this.
    • Is the described flight training the minimum required?
Yes, the training in the manual shows the minimum required training. Each training flight must meet a certain standard before you proceed to the next flight.
    • What happens if I don't complete the Night(A) training within 6 months?
If the training is not completed within 6 months, you may not meet the requirements to exercise the privileges of PPL for aircraft in VFR conditions at night. In this case, consult with your instructor for further steps.

    Training Location

The training starts (depending on the season regarding daylight period and weather conditions) from Teuge airport but will mostly take place from an airfield where night flying is permitted, such as Lelystad or Stadtlohn. In summer, there are fewer available airfields for night flying than in autumn and spring. Most night flying training therefore takes place in autumn/spring. If the daylight period compared to Teuge's opening hours allows for take-off from Teuge just before dark, then the flight to the training field is part of the night navigation. If this is not possible (depending on the season), you will first perform a day-VFR navigation flight with an instructor to the training field of choice (and back after the training). These flights are not part of the night flying training and are therefore not included in the package. However, it's super fun and educational to do that again! In consultation, we determine whether to return to Teuge after the night flight or stay overnight near the training location. This is always dependent on preferences and circumstances. The Night rating is therefore always organized in close consultation with our planning.

By the way, the training field can also be chosen by the student and can take place in other countries if desired. We are happy to provide a cost overview if you are interested in this.

    Scheduling Date and Time

After your order, we will contact you. We will then send you the information and all possible dates on which you can schedule the lessons. Of course, it may happen that the weather is not good and we have to reschedule a lesson. We will always let you know as soon as possible.

    Taking Lessons on Weekends

That's possible, we are open every day. Please note that airfields charge higher landing fees on weekends. Therefore, this training is more expensive during this period if you want to take lessons on weekends.
